Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre
The Whakatāne Museum houses over 600,000 items in its collections. This includes significant examples of Taonga Māori, a comprehensive collection of archival material from the Whakatāne District and the Bay of Plenty region, and an extensive photographic collection covering the physical and social history of the past century. Visit in person or online as they undertake a huge digitisation project to make more of the collection available online.

A series of beautiful and thought provoking images depict the children's forced journey from Poland to Russia, evacuation to Persia and their warm welcome to New Zealand.
