ACCESSIBILITY

General

Accessibility is important. Central Library has a wheelchair, walking aids and basket trolleys for you to use. There are ramps from The Square and George Street. Lifts can take you to each floor. Please ask at the main desk on the first floor at the Central Library for lift access. For the sight impaired, there are magnifying glasses and a text enlarger onsite. You can borrow large print resources such as audio books, a book rest, and there are a few daisy players. The self-service kiosks for borrowing have sight-impaired options.

Rongoā Māori

A series of practical workshops for Rongoā Māori - Traditional Māori Medicine. Workshops are taught in the bush in a supportive and encouraging environment for both Māori and non-Māori participants. All workshops are run over a weekend and are held in the ngahere (forest). The aim is to teach people how to identify the plants used for rongoā, where to find them, and how to collect them and the tikanga (customs) that must be followed.
