A time for remembrance, celebrating the present and looking to the future

Matariki is a time for us to gather and celebrate with those around us. This year, the theme ‘Matariki Kāinga Hokia’ encourages us to return home and be with our loved ones, however that may look. Have a look at the website, find or list an event in your town. Check out the resource page for lots of information. To assist us on our Matariki journey, Te Arawhiti has published a digital resource to celebrate and educate readers about the traditions and cultural importance of Matariki. You can also order a print version. Maybe do a hautapu ceremony at home. What a beautiful way to remember the past, feed whānau and observe this special time. Watch the national broadcast 6am -11am on all major networks.

Matariki is a time where people, whānau, and communities gather together to remember the year that has passed, to celebrate the present, and to plan for the next year. It is a time to remember our loved ones who are no longer with us, to feast and celebrate with our relatives and friends, and to look towards the future and the hope of a season full of bounty.
