ACCESSIBILITY

General

Most paths in the gardens are at less than a one in twelve grade. However the paths up to the Camellia Carpark and Victorian Flower Garden are steeper. We advise parking in the Camellia Carpark accessible from Gate 2 for easier access to the top areas of Hamilton Gardens. Some gardens are not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Changing Places bathroom available. Detailed information available on the website.

Parking

Parking for people with limited accessibility is reserved in each of the main carparks accessible from Gate 1 and Gate 2.

Transport

Coming from Auckland, Hamilton Gardens is 90 minutes drive and is located halfway between Auckland and Rotorua or Taupō. Hamilton Gardens is 45 minutes from Hobbiton and 1 hour from the Waitomo Caves. Catch a bus on Route 17 - Hamilton Gardens. The bus stop is at the main Gate 1 carpark.

Rongoā Māori

A series of practical workshops for Rongoā Māori - Traditional Māori Medicine. Workshops are taught in the bush in a supportive and encouraging environment for both Māori and non-Māori participants. All workshops are run over a weekend and are held in the ngahere (forest). The aim is to teach people how to identify the plants used for rongoā, where to find them, and how to collect them and the tikanga (customs) that must be followed.
