The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre is a contemporary art museum and home to the The Len Lye Centre – New Zealand’s first institution dedicated to a single artist, the pioneering filmmaker and kinetic sculptor, Len Lye.

Experience innovative and provocative work by the world’s leading contemporary artists. Exhibitions that change every four months are accompanied with a programme of talks, tours, art-making, workshops, and a regularly changed selection of works from the Len Lye Foundation Collection and Archive.

ACCESSIBILITY

General

All galleries and facilities are wheelchair accessible and a limited number of wheelchairs are available from reception. Assistance dogs are welcome. Baby-changing facilities available. The Gallery changes all of the exhibitions three times a year. During changeover times, some galleries have limited access or are closed to enable artwork installation work. For visitors who experience sensitivity to high levels of noise, light, and smells, Sensory Maps have been developed to help indicate potential areas of high or low sensory activity.

Parking

Two designated parking spaces are available for people with limited mobility. These are located outside the Gallery entrance on Queen Street. Display of a mobility parking card is required for vehicles stationed in these car parking spaces. Please note, the surface between the footpath and the road is not level and may require you to travel to find the nearest ramp.

Rongoā Māori

A series of practical workshops for Rongoā Māori - Traditional Māori Medicine. Workshops are taught in the bush in a supportive and encouraging environment for both Māori and non-Māori participants. All workshops are run over a weekend and are held in the ngahere (forest). The aim is to teach people how to identify the plants used for rongoā, where to find them, and how to collect them and the tikanga (customs) that must be followed.
