Opportunities for resourcefulness through craft

Resourcefulness is creating what we need from what is around and within us, for the wellbeing of the planet and people. Learn and share new skills. Free and low cost weekday craft workshops for Community Services Card holders and community groups, thanks to support from Creative New Zealand. Book online work shops for purchase. Films feature Ōtautahi Christchurch-based craft practitioners who teach the same skills and many more in our Rekindle workshop. An introductory film about Rekindle is included with every purchase, along with an introduction to the material of tī kōuka (cabbage tree) leaves for our weaving and string making workshops.

Cost?

Some workshops are free and some may have a cost. Free/low cost workshops under a Craft Opportunities programme for those that hold Community Services Cards

ACCESSIBILITY

General

The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora strives to be open and accessible to all and is working to remove barriers for visitors with mobility impairments. All bathrooms are accessible. The workshop is fully wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp entrance at the back of the building as well as a lift that brings you up to the first floor.

Parking

There are two mobility access parks in Market Square, with no time limit.

Rongoā Māori

A series of practical workshops for Rongoā Māori - Traditional Māori Medicine. Workshops are taught in the bush in a supportive and encouraging environment for both Māori and non-Māori participants. All workshops are run over a weekend and are held in the ngahere (forest). The aim is to teach people how to identify the plants used for rongoā, where to find them, and how to collect them and the tikanga (customs) that must be followed.
