At Space Place you can discover stories of our New Zealand skies through multimedia exhibits, interactive galleries, the historic Thomas Cooke telescope and the digital, full-dome planetarium.

Learn about planets, stars, constellations and galaxies and New Zealand’s contribution to astronomy and space sciences. Complete a trip through the galaxy, look back in time to our history of exploration with the transit of Venus and Māori starlore.

ACCESSIBILITY

General

The Space Place entrance video welcomes visitors in NZSL. A wheelchair is available for use from the front desk. Level access and floor space for wheelchair users to be seated in the planetarium. An accessible route within the site with a minimum width of 1200mm. Wheelchair accessible toilets with baby changing stations. All support animals with service jackets, collars or ID are welcome at Space Place. A grassed area outside the entrance for support animals. Guided tours are available upon request in English and Mandarin.

Transport

Wellington Cable Car departs from Cable Car Lane 280 Lambton Quay. The cable car can be accessed by wheelchairs and with guide-dogs. For more on cable car fares and accessibility, visit the Wellington Cable Car website. The nearest public bus stop is on Upland Road opposite Glasgow Street.

Parking

1 Upland Road, Kelburn. The carpark provides paid carparking for all with limited spaces for drivers with mobility parking permits. There are four dedicated mobility car parks are very close to the main entrance. Contact Spaceplace to make sure there is one available for your arrival. You will also need directions from staff on how to drive to this carpark, access is from Salamanca Road. There is no shelter over the accessible car parking.
