The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū is the public art gallery for the Nelson Tasman region.
With local, national and international art spanning over 200 years, The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū has a collection of national significance. Highlights include New Zealand’s largest collection of watercolours by the nineteenth-century landscape artist John Gully. Join an artwalk or a class. The Suter Art Gallery and Tasman District Council are bringing Richmond’s streets to life with an exciting outdoor exhibition set to adorn the walls of buildings in Richmond’s town centre in a project backed by Tasman District Council and community supporters.
Led by Mark Dunstan, ‘Art for Adults’ caters to beginners to those who might be more experienced but perhaps want encouragement, to try something new, such as new techniques, working in different media or trying to tackle the different subject matter. With a regularly changing exhibitions’ programme and a collection to draw on, there is never any shortage of inspiration at hand in the gallery. The Suter’s new Education Room looks out over the Queen’s Gardens and the outdoors Sculpture Walk, which also provides a tranquil backdrop and additional subject matter.
