ACCESSIBILITY

General

Mobility parking is available at both sites. Mobility parking at MOTAT Great North Road is available within the Museum gates and you need to prearrange access. This can be done by either calling the helpful team on 09 815 5800 or emailing enquiries@motat.org.nz. Many of MOTAT’s public spaces are accessible, but as an operational museum spread over a large area with varying terrain, unfortunately not all areas are suitable for wheelchair access. Areas with wheelchair access include exhibition halls and display spaces, the MOTAT Café and and the MOTAT Shops. Only trams with wide doors (such as the Melbourne trams normally operating during the week) can accommodate wheelchairs and the accompanying caregiver must be available to lift the visitor onto the tram. Both MOTAT sites have accessible toilet facilities. Limited number of wheelchairs available for use while you are at the Museum so please get in touch before your visit for more information.

Transport

Located just 10 minutes drive from the Auckland CBD via the North Western Motorway, MOTAT is easy to find when you take the St Lukes Road off-ramp, Exit 6. Plan your journey with Google Maps.MOTAT Great North Road - 805 Great North Road, Western Springs MOTAT Aviation Hall - 98 Motions Road, Western Springs. Bike racks are provided at both sites. Buses to MOTAT depart regularly from downtown Auckland. The Auckland Explorer Bus stops at MOTAT on request.

Parking

Street parking near MOTAT Great North Road is available on Stadium Road and across the road there is car parking to the right of the Caltex station. MOTAT Museum of Transport and Technology.

Rongoā Māori

A series of practical workshops for Rongoā Māori - Traditional Māori Medicine. Workshops are taught in the bush in a supportive and encouraging environment for both Māori and non-Māori participants. All workshops are run over a weekend and are held in the ngahere (forest). The aim is to teach people how to identify the plants used for rongoā, where to find them, and how to collect them and the tikanga (customs) that must be followed.
