Maruia Hot Springs is located on Highway 7 in the Lewis Pass National Park on one of only three mountain highways through the Southern Alps that link the East-coast to the West coast of the South Island. A picturesque 1hr (78km) drive from Hanmer Springs or 45min (69km) further along the highway from the turn-off to Hanmer Springs when travelling from Christchurch.
